U.S. Traveler Information

The Fellowship covers a six week period and pays a stipend. The Fellowship is ideally suited to young academic surgeons who are at the stage in their career to benefit from international exposure. Foreign travelers have often commented that this experience was one of the highlights of their careers.

You need to guarantee your availability to travel for a period of up to six weeks within the award year. The award may be split into two three-week periods. Candidates are selected at the annual meeting held each October, during ACS Clinical Congress.

For United States nominations:

Nominations are made by the Surgical Chairs. We invite you to contact your Chairman to discuss the possibility of your nomination for the James IV Traveling Fellowship as soon as possible . In order to complete your nomination, we will need the following two months prior to the October meeting:

  • Candidate's Curriculum Vitae, Bibliography and picture
